Mental Health Intensive Outpatient Program (MHIOP)

Are your emotions controlling you? Are you often overwhelmed by feelings of anger or sadness, or feelings of being out of control or anxious?

Healthy Futures’ Mental Health Intensive Outpatient Program is designed to help you regain a sense of peace and contentment with life through the proven methods found in Dialectical Behavior Therapy.

Our Mental Health IOP, also known as “Skills for Life” class, is based on DBT Skills Training. DBT is a highly effective treatment designed to help individuals develop skills to cope with life’s stresses.

The program is for adults of all genders, 18 and older.

Members of our DBT group come from a variety of backgrounds and struggle with different kinds of problems, including physical illnesses, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, obsessional thinking, relationship difficulties, self-harm and anger management challenges.

MHIOP group members must also be in individual therapy on a regular basis, with a Healthy Futures provider or elsewhere, to be considered a candidate for this group. This is a high functioning group.

Frequently asked questions

Is DBT the same as traditional group counseling?

Our Mental Health/DBT IOP is a more intense program that a typical once-a-week outpatient group, but it is not an open process group. However, we ensure everyone is held in a safe space as participants learn new skills that are designed to help those with emotional dysregulation and cognitive or interpersonal instability. Seeing everyone move forward toward a more peaceful life is our goal.

Am I required to be in individual therapy?

Yes. A great deal of study has proven that DBT skills, in conjunction with individual therapy, offers the best results. Very often the skills you learn in DBT can be incorporated with the work you are doing with your therapist or counselor.

Am I required to choose a provider at Healthy Futures for individual therapy?

No. Our team members are incredibly skilled and empathetic professionals, but if you have an established relationship with a therapist, we encourage you to continue that bond. We also can provide support if you want to choose a therapist outside of Healthy Futures.

Is the Mental Health/DBT IOP covered by insurance?

Insurance plans vary greatly, but generally speaking, if your health insurance includes coverage for mental health, it likely will cover our Mental Health/DBT IOP. Our administrative staff are experts at helping you understand your coverage and are happy to answer your insurance questions.
